Long-ago friendship

Helen married my oldest school-friend, Colin Glass, and Debbie and I saw all too little of them over the years.  I recall popping in for a quick Hello somewhere in the Midlands in the 1960s as we drove our little Hillman Imp (with our three little'uns in the back) all the way up to Scotland.  Colin and Helen visited us in Guildford some years ago, and we went to see them at Camberley once.  Just wish we could have exchanged visits more frequently.  At school Colin and I used to box, and my nose took a battering from his powerful straight left.  I came to know his parents well too: lovely people, especially his bubbly Mum.  Colin and Helen enjoyed hearing those reminiscences from the 1940s.

Now they are both gone, and this year I lost my beloved Debbie after 62 years of the happiest of marriages.  I cherish those times we all had together, and only wish they weren't more frequent.  God bless the memories of Helen and Colin.    DAVID FRITH
